Turn on desktop notifications for ringing calls

Get a browser notification when a call rings in, so you don't miss it while working in another tab.

If you work with HighLevel open in a background tab, it is easy to miss a call ringing in. Desktop notifications put a native browser alert on your screen the moment a call rings, so you can answer it without keeping the tab in front of you all day.

Before you start

  • Who can do this: any rep or admin. No admin setting controls this; it is a personal browser permission each person grants for themselves.
  • What you need: a browser that supports notifications (all current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari do) and permission granted to the HighLevel tab.

Turning it on

Browsers only allow a notification permission prompt in direct response to a click, so Phone Clover asks for permission the first time you click the phone bubble. A standard browser permission dialog appears asking whether to allow notifications from the page. Click Allow.

If you clicked Block by accident, or dismissed the prompt without answering, your browser will not ask again automatically. You will need to turn notifications back on for the site from your browser’s own site settings, usually reached by clicking the lock or info icon next to the address bar.

Note: this permission is set per browser, per device. If you use Phone Clover on a work laptop and a home computer, grant it separately on each one.

What you’ll see

A notification appears only when the HighLevel tab is hidden or not focused. If HighLevel is the active tab you are looking at, the on-screen ringing call takes care of alerting you and no separate notification fires.

When a notification does appear:

  • The title shows the caller’s name if Phone Clover recognizes them, or the formatted phone number if not.
  • The body reads “Incoming call · <number>”.
  • If Phone Clover resolves the caller’s name a moment after the first notification appears, while the call is still ringing, it re-sends the notification with the name filled in.
  • The notification stays on screen until you act on it (it does not disappear on its own after a few seconds).
  • Clicking the notification brings the HighLevel tab to the front and opens the phone so you can answer.
  • The notification closes automatically once the call is answered, declined, or ends, whichever browser or device did not handle it first.

What this does not cover

Desktop notifications only fire for a ringing call. Missed calls and incoming texts do not trigger a separate desktop notification today. For missed calls, check the Recents tab’s missed-call badge, or the dashboard’s To call back list.

Troubleshooting

Nothing happens when I click the phone bubble. If you already blocked notifications earlier (even in a previous session), the browser will not prompt again. Check your browser’s site settings for the HighLevel domain and allow notifications there directly.

I get notifications, but they arrive late. This usually means the browser tab was suspended in the background by the operating system to save power. Keeping the tab pinned, or the browser window at least partly visible, reduces how aggressively some browsers suspend background tabs.

I don’t want notifications anymore. Turn the permission off from your browser’s site settings for HighLevel. There is no in-app switch inside Phone Clover for this, since it is a browser-level permission.

Notifications work on my laptop but not my phone. Phone Clover’s calling surface is desktop browser only. On mobile, use the GHL mobile app for texting, and forward calls to your cell phone instead. See SMS in the GHL mobile app and Forward calls to your mobile phone.
